This one of a kind experience allows you to spend time and learn from Britain’s best artisan cheesemakers while staying in a beautifully restored English Manor.  Meet up in London at Neal’s Yard Dairy with Cheese Journeys owner Anna Juhl and cheese writer Tenaya Darlington (aka Madame Fromage) before we travel west to North Cadbury Court, one of the finest historic properties in Somerset, England. Enjoy chef-prepared meals, tour scenic farms, and witness cheddar making first hand. Participate in cooking demonstrations and even a “cheese portrait” art class taught by Mike Geno - artist and cheese painter extraordinaire!

Day 1 - Monday, March 30
London's Borough Market, History & Overview of British Cheese at Neal's Yard Dairy

Our Cheddar Odyssey tour begins at Neal's Yard Dairy retail cheese shop, for an overview and history of the British cheese world. We’ll explore the historic nooks and passageways of this thriving Borough Market to find a colorful and eclectic blend of foodstuffs from all over the world. We'll make our way to the new and thriving area of Bermondsey located in the converted railway arches of South-East London. Spa Terminus has a rich history of food production and wholesaling; today it is home to Neal's Yard Dairy's cheese maturing room and expanded wholesale facility. Experience an inside glimpse of the fascinating world of selecting, maturating and the global exporting of Britain's farmhouse cheese.

We'll depart for North Cadbury Court, Somerset. This exquisite 21-bedroom English manor will be our home for 4 nights. It has great history - linked to Jane Austen, Camelot and King Arthur, and the family home to world-renowned cheddar maker Jamie Montgomery.

After tea, we’ll tour this historic property with owner Archie Montgomery, who, with his wife, Janet, are responsible for its recent lovely restoration. This family home has been host to many historic events and the major filming location for the 2007 screen adaptation of Jane Asten's “Persuasion”. Enjoy a classic meal of British Indian cuisine prepared by our private Cheese Journeys chefs. Finish the evening with a moonlit walk, a relaxing swim, or a game of snooker.

Day 2 - Tuesday, March 31
Montgomery’s Cheddar, Cooking Class, Dinner with Britain's Best

After an early breakfast, half the group will immerse themselves in the world of British clothbound cheddar - spending a dream morning with Jamie Montgomery. Walk down the road to the Montgomery farm and creamery to see first-hand the making of Montgomery Cheddar or Ogleshield.

The other guests will spend time with our chefs for a hands-on cooking demonstration of regional cuisine featuring local ingredients. These charming French chefs are masters of French, Italian and English cuisine, lovers of artisan cheese, and adept teachers.

Enjoy a delicious ploughman’s lunch followed by an afternoon filled with recreation - swim, lawn events, tennis, water volleyball, paddle boat racing or even golf off the roof!

Madame Fromage kicks off the evening with cocktails as we welcome fifteen of Britain's best cheese makers to NCC for "A Celebration of Cheese”. Experience a rare opportunity to enjoy time with these brilliant producers during an educational tasting and dinner paired with wines, ciders and brandies.  


Day 3 - Wednesday, April 1
Cheese Painting, Westcombe Cheddar, Wild Beer Company and Ogleshield Raclette Dinner

Guests and lingering cheese makers will spend the morning in a cheese painting class with Mike Geno. Mike will be sharing his passion for both art and cheese as he has painted (and then eaten) over 300 artisan cheeses!  Learn the tricks of the trade and go home with your own cheese painting!  Our cheese art, along with some of Mike's work, will make up a mini-exhibition for viewing during our stay at North Cadbury Court.

After lunch, we'll head to the farm to meet up with Tom Calver, the young and dynamic cheesemaker of Westcombe Cheddar. Westcombe Cheddar is one of the newest of the three traditional cheddars awarded an International Presidia by the Slow Food movement. You’ll peek at the creamery and spend time inside the newly-built cheese aging caves to see classic farmhouse Cheddars, Duckett’s Caerphilly, and Westcombe Red, and meet “Tina the Turner”, the rockstar robot who spends her days turning cheese! We’ll enjoy a cheese and charcuterie pairing with select brews from the Wild Beer Co., and get the inside scoop on Tom's new charcuterie project. 

We finish the day with a game of golf off the roof and a crowd-pleasing raclette-style dinner featuring Ogleshield.

Day 4 - Thursday, April 2
Montgomery Cheese, Cooking Demonstrations, Clay Shooting, and Dance

Our Tuesday morning’s schedule is repeated and the two groups will enjoy a chef prepared lunch with Jamie.

In the afternoon, recreational options include a clay shooting competition, swimming, fishing or paddle boating on our private lake.

A delicious farewell dinner and dancing will likely cap off our evening!

Day 5 - Friday, April 3
Depart NCC, Camelot & Dairy Walk and Camelot Pub, Return to Heathrow 

After an early breakfast, we bid farewell to North Cadbury Court and meet up with Jamie for a walking tour of the extended area of the Montgomery estate, including the dairy, pastures of Jersey cows, and the legendary castle and fortress ruins of Camelot - believed to be the home of King Arthur. We’ll enjoy a farewell lunch at the Camelot Pub, and a stop at Stonehenge - all as we make our way to London’s Heathrow airport to end our tour.


Tour Price Includes
Lodging for four nights, breakfast provided 4 mornings, five noon and four evening meals (alcoholic beverages served with meals) and additional food events and tastings. All transportation during the tour (from NYD Borough Market to North Cadbury Court in Somerset, day trips, and returning to Heathrow Airport). All classes and/or day tours provided by local hosts, cheese educators and chef.

Tour Price Does Not Includes
Round trip transportation to and from London, hotel accommodations before or after the tour, and any personal shopping during the walking tours of Borough Market. During our stays at North Cadbury Court, specific alcoholic beverages, other than those served at meals and tasting events, may be purchased separately from the host or at locations during the tour.

To the best of our ability, this tour itinerary is final. However, if, due to unexpected extreme changes in weather, or a schedule emergency with cheesemakers, etc, Cheese Journeys reserves the right to substitute an event if needed. During the tour, you have the option of declining a particular excursion or tour but, we are unable to make refunds for any missed meals, classes or events.
