British Cheese Odyssey: London, Somerset & Bath
-
This is not your ordinary food tour! The British Cheese Odyssey is a remarkable opportunity to get behind-the-scenes of artisan cheesemaking with the people who are driving the British cheese renaissance. We visited farms in the beautiful Somerset countryside, saw milk turning into cheese right on the farms, met the cheesemakers over a gala dinner, and had a fun day exploring Bath, the lovely spa town made famous by Jane Austen.
We spent the week as the sole visitors in a grand home owned by one of the most famous cheesemakers, Jamie Montgomery, whose family has made Montgomery's Cheddar for three generations. Jamie is a superb host and storyteller, sharing the history of his family, the lovely home, and of course, his cheeses and how he supports other dairy folks. Topping all of that off with fabulous meals served up by Chef Sylvain, the whole itinerary is perfect for cheese lovers as well as anyone who enjoys history, beautiful countryside, and having fun with lovely people. Hats off to Cheese Journeys for putting together a truly one-of-a-kind experience

The UK Cheese Journey was certainly one of the best, arguably the best, of our travel experiences. From pastures to milking parlours to production floors to aging cellars to retail cheese shops and everything in-between. Interesting companions, elegant country manor accommodation, brilliant meals, good wines, and, of course, Anna. And all of this in ‘England’s green and pleasant land’.

This will be our third trip with Cheese Journeys, and we can’t say enough good things! Anna puts together a first-class experience. From the stunning accommodations to the behind-the-scenes exposure to cheesemakers, winemakers, and artisan food producers, no one curates a trip like Cheese Journeys! It is a great way to combine a vacation with our passion for cheese and good food.

Owning the castle, which is what I call staying at a house like this one, creates an easygoing house-party experience guests enjoy,” Ms. Juhl said that night while we were having drinks before dinner in the baronial oak-paneled North Hall.
The arrangement also allowed Ms. Juhl to put her preferred private chef, the exception- ally talented Frenchman Sylvain Jamois, in the estate’s kitchen. These meals were a highlight of our trip, too, since Mr. Jamois has a mastery of British country- house cooking, food you rarely find in restaurants, such as handmade pies, potted prawns and gorgeous roasts, including a whole roasted suckling pig.— Alexander Lobrano, The New York Times

Thank you so much again for such a wonderful week. We could not have imagined a more picture-perfect way to ease back into travel. Your attention to detail, dedication to the guest experience, and willingness to share the spotlight to showcase the expertise of others was a gracious example - well done.
We hope our paths cross again. We would love to take another Cheese Journey next year circumstances permitting.—MK 2022

I was extremely excited to participate in last fall’s Cheese Journeys adventure to London and Somerset, England, as it was my first trip outside of North America. I only wonder why I waited so long as the tour far exceeded all my expectations! The accommodations at North Cadbury Court Manor were truly exceptional (think Downton Abbey), while the culinary expertise of the chefs, and the daily excursions to visit renowned artisan cheese and wine makers inspired me to share this story with others.
Anna Juhl’s attention to details, knowledge, and relationships with local artisans combined with an accommodating spirit result in a very personalized travel experience. My Cheese Journeys experiences will continue with memories that will last a lifetime.—M.P. Nov 2022

Thank you so much for a wonderful trip! I came expecting great tasting cheese - which there was in abundance - but what I didn’t expect was the education that this trip provided. I am in awe of the knowledge and passion in this space and it only made me want to learn more. The time spent with Chef Sylvain meant a lot to me. The education I received in a few days/hours in a beautiful manor in the English countryside has me believing that my dream of pursuing my culinary passion can be nourished in a variety of ways if I open my mind to it.
I have a newfound love for cheese and the farmers, cows, affineurs (I learned a lot of new words too!), experts, enthusiasts, and everyone and thing that makes it possible, so I will be on another Cheese Journey!— Jacqui Kincaid, 2022

Highly recommend this wonderful travel experience. The Manor House is both majestic and comfortable. My room was so beautiful I felt like a princess. The food is better than the best restaurants and very plentiful, as is the cheese. I learned so much and was so impressed by how well planned and orchestrated every day of the trip was. The Cheese Journey team, particularly Anna, Jilly, and John, were top notch and a pleasure to be with. Do yourself a favor and say yes to your chance to travel with them on their next journey.

Wow...where do I begin!? Finding out that there was a company that specialized in cheese, cheese education, food and collaboration all throughout Europe was one of the best things I have ever learned! From the moment I met Anna, I knew she was special and very very good at what she does. I loved meeting and spending time with our group, having my days planned in between delicious and well-curated meals all amongst the gorgeous English countryside. Every detail was thoughtful, intentional and meaningful - from the room we stayed in to the educational cheese classes to the wild and wonderful gala night where we connected with cheese experts. I was very impressed by the unique and VIP tours we were taken on throughout the trip. I immediately felt at ease among fellow cheese-obsessed friends and loved that I could be my authentic self throughout the journey. I never once felt like I couldn't eat another bite of cheese and was pleasantly surprised by the generous beverages and cocktails! I made sure to take advantage of all the delightful activities, classes, different types of food and scheduled outings in addition to the incredible amenities that the manor house offered (my favorites were the hot tub and the disco). I felt very sad to leave at the end of the trip as I had made genuine friends that I hope to stay in touch with and experienced one-of-a-kind memories. I truly can't wait to go on another Cheese Journey trip but in all honesty, I would repeat the British Odyssey again and again :)

Cheese Journey to Belgium & Netherlands: Cheese, Chocolate & Brews
-
This was my fifth Cheese Journeys trip. As always, it was over the top! We stayed at a lovely "farmhouse" (Wierschuur), and the hotels where we stayed for a few nights were top notch. (I especially liked the Amsterdam Hilton at the Amsterdam Airport.)
The tour was fabulous, allowing us to access experiences that I would never find on my own (e.g., a cheese/hot tea pairing with Betty Koster, a chocolate tasting and educational presentation with the company owner). Chefs Sylvain and Milo were with us at Wierschuur, and I only want to go on tours where they prepare our meals--so delicious!
I enjoyed the hands-on food preparation classes, and Madame Fromage was an absolute delight, both inside and outside the "classroom". Anna and Jilly had all of the bases covered, and I very much appreciated their accompanying me to the ER. They both show genuine concern and caring for all participants and are excellent attending to every detail. I look forward to my sixth Cheese Journeys tour in October 2026. Thank you to Anna for her vision and creation and execution of a plan to create these wonderful experiences for us!

Fun and informative, not to mention warm, colorful, and welcoming hosts. A real cheese centric snapshot of the Dutch food scene and culture.

Cheese Journey: Bourgogne- Franche Comté
-
This is an amazing trip! It is no exaggeration when I say that everything was perfect. The chateau, set is the beautiful countryside, was comfortable and spacious. Dining outside under a gigantic ancient tree was idyllic. The company of my co travelers was interesting and fun, occasionally hilarious. Best group I’ve travelled with! And the best food by far from puff pastry filled with scallops and fish in a truffle sauce to rack of lamb, coq a vin, and desserts that were impossible to pass up.
I learned so much about the wine and cheeses of Burgundy! I want to go back because I think I’ve fallen in love with Burgundy. All thanks to Jilly, Madame Fromage, Sylvan, Milo, Robert, the drivers, the owner of the chateau and the wine and cheese experts.

Cheese Journey to Northern Italy: Piedmont & Lake Country
-
First thing to know is that we were on this Northern Italy Cheese Journey not just because we're interested in Northern Italy and love cheese, but mostly because we'd done their UK Cheese Odyssey and loved every minute of it.
Of course, Northern Italy in a vastly different locale, but it was exactly what we were ready for after realizing how Cheese Journeys can give you access to food experiences that you'll not have otherwise. Believe me, it's mostly about ACCESS. Anna and her crew know not just cheese, but all the right people!
The Piedmont and Lago-land offers a superb array of cheeses and wines as well as the landscape they come from. A couple days ahead of time in Milan is recommended if you've never been in this part of Italy before. It's really NOT the same as Rome, Tuscany, Umbria, Naples, Puglia, Sicily, Sardinia, etc. But the tour only starts there with a quick introduction to the food products of the region with a walkabout around a very trendy part of Milan for part of the day. It's best to "do" Milan a bit on your own ahead of time. The biggest portion of the tour is spent at a very comfortable villa surrounded by vineyards in the tiny Piedmont village of Castiglione Tinella. You have the entire villa to yourselves and get to know each other very well by eating and touring together.
I think it's very likely you'll enjoy each other's company because not only are you probably all on the same page about good food, but also because you'll be shepherded and informed so well by Jilly and Emilio,. It would take too long to explain what their credentials for that role are, but just start with the assumption that they know cheese, wine, food and travel.
The highlights are many, but mostly, as I've said, a matter of access: Meeting the queen of Barolo wines Chiara Boschis and tasting her recent vintages; meeting Giorgio Cravero at his estate in Bra, hearing him explain what makes Parmigiano-Reggiano special and tasting his product amidst 5,000 examples; making pasta with chef Alessandra at Beppino Ocelli's; hunting for truffles with a real "trifulau" and his dogs; the cheese and charcuterie orgy at La Casera in Verbenia on Lake Maggiore, and the tour of Luigi Guffanti's cheese cave with the Fiori brothers... These are all experiences that you are afforded because of the CONNECTIONS that Cheese Journeys has built over the years—and because many of these people are valued associates of Emilio Mignucci of Di Bruno Bros. in Philadelphia, PA.
This can't be overstated. You get into places and meet people, because you are with Cheese Journeys. Certainly we can all enjoy the consumption aspect of a trip like this, but you select this tour group because you want to learn something that will be a lasting part of your culinary and cultural knowledge. You get smarter, more discerning, more worldly. Not just fatter. Actually, I tend to lose weight when I travel—probably due to the regularity of "meal time." This was no exception.

Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed spending our honeymoon with Cheese Journeys in Italy. What a fantastic adventure! Since returning home, we have done nothing BUT reminisce about our wonderful Cheese Journey.
Highlights for us include getting to see the most wonderful places that mere mortal travelers would not be invited to see. What fantastic connections you have developed with your company, and we were so lucky to be the beneficiary of these connections. Jilly and Tenaya took such good care of everyone in the group. We felt looked- after at every turn.
As you would expect on a tour called Cheese Journey, we did learn a lot about cheese. We also, learned so much more! We both feel like we were steeped in Italian wine, food and culture and cannot stop ourselves from gushing ‘Prego’and ‘Grazie’ ad “Buongiorno’ to anyone we meet!
We think we will enjoy doing another Cheese Journey in 2025.
Thanks again for everything- we loved it all!— Angie and John, Italy 2024

Cheese Journeys created a beautiful context in which to learn about and appreciate cheese, wine, and good food and make new friends during our trip to northern Italy. From cheese caves which age a resurrected recipe that was a favorite of King Vittorio Emannuele, to cheese producers nearly 2000 km above sea level, to wine tasting with “Barolo girl” Chiara Boschis, this trip provided myriad experiences that I never would have had otherwise. The tone was set from the beginning: a food tour in Milan prepared our stomachs for the gastronomic delight that forms the cornerstone of Cheese Journeys.
The incredible hospitality, passion, and pride we saw at each and every cheese producer and winery, for me, defined this trip. I was struck over and over by how incredibly special it was for us to be able to visit these producers. The depth of the relationships that Anna, Jilly, and the rest of the Cheese Journey team have cultivated over the years with every place we visited was apparent and helped make this such an incredible experience.— G.D. -Italy 2023

Food for Thought is almost too trite yet the most apt description of my trips to the Piedmont of Italy and the British Cheese Odyssey. Once I viewed the postcard for the Slow Foods Bra Cheese Festival I knew I had found my new family. Combining the love and respect for cheese, wine, cider and other pairings is an integral part of my life and was what made the trips exceptional. Anna, keep on cheesin’!

We decided to try a different type of vacation this year that wasn't a land or river cruise or one we had to plan ourselves. We are so very glad that we did. Taking the Cheese Journey trip to Northern Italy was a totally different experience for us and one we will always remember fondly. We were fortunate to meet such a wonderful group of new friends and had such a fun time traveling the countryside and visiting the many master cheesemakers and wineries. Our daily conversations, the delicious food and drinks and "out of this world" cheeses were thoroughly enjoyed. A special thanks to Jilly and Emilio for coordinating such a wonderful trip and for their patience, expertise and personal stories that truly kept us entertained and wanting more. Grazie Mille!! Ciao!

I wanted to thank you for a fabulous trip with Cheese Journeys. I learned so much about cheeses and wines on this trip to Italy, as well as enjoying the many cultural experiences on our tour. The cozy group of nine made the trip a remarkable adventure, as the exchanges were peppered with lots of kind acts and great fun among close friends. Thank you so much for all the detailed prep work behind the scenes that made for the many unique activities we enjoyed with great cheese mongers and wine experts, in addition to all the individual co-hosts, tour guides, tour bus drivers, hotel hosts, etc. with whom we had the privilege to spend our time. It was amazing!

Cheese Journey to Alpine Regions of France & Switzerland
-
Cheese Journeys France 2016 took us on a foodie’s adventure! Anna and her friendly team made everyone on this trip feel like family, so comfortable right from the beginning. We visited cheesemakers, affineurs, wine producers and had incredible meals that we would not have dreamed of had we planned this trip ourselves. We had other family members on the trip as well and they still can’t stop talking about how amazing, well planned, and fun experience this was. Can’t wait to go on another trip with Cheese Journeys!

Our trip to France with Cheese Journeys was far more than a “tour”, it was indeed a journey. Plan to be surrounded by the beauty of rural France, the graciousness of local cheesemakers, winemakers and experts who delight in sharing their talents and wisdom. You’ll end every day just a bit smarter than you started, and with a belly full of exquisitely prepared meals. Cheese will always be part of every day, and it serves as the thread that weaves through a much broader experience, one that you could never put together on your own because of Anna’s insider’s access. We especially enjoyed sharing photos of our journey with our very jealous friends!

One of my favorite aspects of Cheese Journeys is the access to exceptional experiences that I would never be able to plan on my own. It takes years of exploration and relationship-building to discover the best artisan producers who are willing to grant access to their creameries and caves, normally reserved to cheese industry professionals.
While each trip is a gastronomic experience with amazing accommodations, you feel like you’ve been invited into someone’s home. The meals prepared by Cheese Journeys’ own professional chefs are exceptional, without having to go to a different restaurant every day.
I’ve also appreciated the small group size as well as the diversity of my fellow “cheese enthusiast” travelers. And Anna is so engaged and helpful, she has become a friend through these experiences.— N.G., Alpine Regions of France & Switzerland (June 2019) and Northern Italy (May 2022)

Where do we begin? We had no idea what to expect on a Cheese Journey - but now we can say WOW!!! The education, the top shelf amenities, the incredible meals - all topped off with new friends! This was a trip of a lifetime. Of course, you have both educated and ruined us :). We were content living our boring cheese lives and now we examine ALL! We are trying to do justice to all you taught us - this is indeed a journey. Thank you for everything.

Transformative, is the word I use to describe our Cheese Journey to Jura, Savoie, France & Switzerland! Anna and team worked together to deliver a life changing travel experience like none other. From start to finish, every activity, 5- star meals, and the accommodations were phenomenal. While I love to plan trips, we ventured to places and stayed in locations I could only dream of and would not have had the resources to access on my own. The trip is about much more than cheese as it showcases beauty, the best hospitality, scrumptious meals, and companionship with those who joined our journey. The level of detail in planning was astonishing and the energy for our group never let up. I am grateful to Anna and the entire Cheese Journey team for the exceptional value for what you offer and am already dreaming and planning for my next Cheese Journey. Thank you for making a difference in my life and allowing me to experience the BEST of travel.

We would give this trip a 10 in all areas; organization, accommodation, food, experiences, and of course the cheese and farmers we visited blew our minds. Have never met anyone like Anna who was generous with her time and welcoming to all. To top it off, there was the Cow Parade in Gstaad! Thanks for a great trip.

This experience surpassed all the other Foodie trips I have taken, even those hosted by celebrity chefs. The food was excellent, hotels were well located, had superior amenities and excellent staff, the travel by van was efficient and comfortable, the drivers were wonderful, and the planning of activities and excursions was exceptional. Communication each day was well managed and complete. The cheese classses and education were backed up by interesting and unusual trips to the high mountain cheesemakers. There was sufficient downtime and a good pace to the planned events. Anna travels with her own cheesemonger professional and her own chefs, contributing to both excellent education and amazing food. The group size was perfect at 14, and included some repeat travelers from her previous trips. I hope to travel with Cheese Journeys again.

From start to finish, the Cheese Journey’s staff performed in a superior manner. Staying in a beautiful French chateau built in 1032, enjoying fine dining and learning culinary skills from superb Cheese Journey chefs, experiencing and learning the art and science of cheese making from some of the best in the business, visits to small villages to peruse and shop markets and boutiques, a boat ride on Lake Annecy, going to the top of the Schilthorn, attending a Cow Parade, and witnessing the endless beauty of the countryside all combined to make this an unforgettable, fabulous, educational, beautiful journey. Kudos to Anna, Jilly, Camilla and the rest of the team. True professionals and a lot of fun!

Thank you Jilly, the Best Tour Guide in France and Switzerland, no, Europe, no, The World! Really, I have no idea how you kept it all together and so well organized! Yours is one “uber” tremendous job and you made it look so seamless.
Cheese and Wine, Wine and Cheese…Sincere thanks to Camilla to expanding my cheese horizons beyond Kraft “cheese food”, Cracker Barrel Cheddar and Wensleydale that I only heard about from watching Wallace and Gromit with my kids.
To Sylvain and Milo chefs- extraordinaire who served superb, delicious meals from that smallish kitchen always with a smile….(even the Bunny and Carrots) uh, well, maybe.
To the exceptional hostesses- Virginie and Laetitia – I’m never seen servers work so hard, and always with a smile and always concern for each of us.
Finally, the absolute BEST fellow travelers…”Youse guys” made the whole trip “wicked pissa fun”, comfortable and just a pleasure to be on.
